Spring is here and Honey Run Trail is superb!
Kirk Stites rides an impressive wheelie and nearly avoids crashing into the photographer. We were out riding Honey Run Yesterday for St. Paddy’s Day. The trail is in EXCELLENT condition. So don’t hesitate to go ride. There are a few wet spots but of course don’t let that keep you from riding, the majority is PERFECT. I think we have some spring weather coming soon, so that might be an issue, but my initial report is go do it!
The Phat Tire Hillbillies were out in a large number for our usual Tuesday night ride. To find our where our next club ride is just contact Dan at Oz Cycles 573-964-7000. Enjoy the Ozarks!
Oz Epic Mountain Bike Race Canceled!!!!!
In a severe blow to the grass roots mountain biking community of the Lake of the Ozarks, this years 2009 Oz Epic Mountain Bike race was canceled, and not to be rescheduled. The Midwest Fat Tire Championship Series felt it was not in condition to race on and the weather would not be cooperative for a successful race day.
We believe differently and will be riding the trail anyways! Please come out and join a ride and a cookout to follow. We will also be celebrating the 1 year anniversary of the new owners of the bike shop, Oz Cycles. Come out and support the Dugans and the lake’s biking community.
Date: Sunday March 8, 2009
Ride Start: 12:30 – Picnic to follow…

The Wrong Way Feldmans finish Bonk Hard Chill!
The Wrong Way Feldmans adventure racing team completed the 2009 Bonk Hard Chill 12 hour adventure race in the heart of the Ozarks. And with only 2 minutes to spare before the final cut off time. The team consisted of myself, Corey Case, Sonya Tomes, Chris Bopp. Corey, Sonya and Chris all represented Red Wheel Bike shop in Jefferson City, while I represented Oz Cycles here at the lake. The course consisted of approximately 47 miles of biking, running/trekking, mountain biking and orienteering. The weather was especially awesome this year! The high for the day was around 66 degrees. Two years ago I raced this race with a two person team, and the high for the day was 18 degrees. It really made this years’ race enjoyable! The race director Jason joked that maybe this years race be called the Bonk Hard Heat Wave!!!!
Special thanks goes out Dan Dugan from Oz Cycles for providing some last minute gear I needed. I also want to thank my team for helping me after I twisted my ankle late in the race, without them I could not have finished!
Thanks to Jason and Laura for putting on another great adventure race in the Lake of the Ozarks State Park. To check out the official race website: Bonk Hard Chill.
